The Psychiatric Research Institute has a total of six stories, a basement level and five floors above ground. There is no "third" floor within PRI to allow the building to align with the UAMS hospital, located adjacent to the institute.

The basement includes the neuroimaging center, complete with a 3 Tesla magnetic resonance imaging device, as well as the patient dining room and storage rooms. The first floor includes PRI's administration and support staff, the education division and the Division of Health Services Research. The second floor is the Walker Family Clinic, PRI’s outpatient service area, including the Programs for Adults and the Programs for Young Adults.

The fourth floor is the Dierks Translational Research Laboratories, the Center for Addiction Research and the Substance Abuse Treatment Center. The fifth and sixth floors are the inpatient units, offering state-of-the-art care in high-quality surroundings, with private rooms, standard-setting safety features and other amenities. The adult unit and the children's unit are on the fifth floor, the medically involved (for patients with medical and psychiatric concerns) and the geriatric units are on the sixth.
