Admitting you have an eating, exercise or body image problem that requires treatment is difficult, and finding the right help is essential. We understand that the first steps to seek help are filled with fear and anxiety, so be assured that we offer hope and healing to those who are suffering from these issues.

Our Adult Eating Disorders Program at UAMS currently offers treatment to men and women, ages 18 years and older, on an outpatient basis. Your treatment will include weekly therapy (individual, family and group), a psychiatric consult and medication management. If recommended, treatment may also include nutritional counseling and planning.

UAMS staff members medically monitor our patients to treat your physical health while providing the resources you need to heal mentally and physically.

Eating disorders include anorexia nervosa and bulimia nervosa. Anorexia nervosa involves fear of gaining weight, distorted body image and restricted eating with significant weight loss, which results in a lack of menstrual periods and a range of dangerous medical problems due to malnutrition. Bulimia nervosa involves episodes of binge eating, often followed by self-induced vomiting, laxative abuse, diuretic abuse or a combination of abuses. The clinic's focus is on these two disorders; at this time, we do not provide comprehensive treatment for overeating disorders.
