Research Expertise:

Dr. Booth has worked in health services research since the mid 1980’s, initially in medical-surgical issues and then in research on issues related to substance abuse and mental health.  After an initial foray into research on outcomes of substance abuse treatment, Dr. Booth has more recently focused on longitudinal community studies of substance abusers, including a large multi-state telephone interview study of rural and urban at-risk drinkers (“the Rural Alcohol Study”) in the mid 1990’s and a multi-state community-based study of rural stimulant users (the “Rural Stimulant Study”) in the mid-2000’s.  She has also conducted several studies of health care utilization associated with substance abuse treatment in the VA healthcare system as well as a longitudinal multi-site study of VA medical-surgical patients with psychiatric comorbidity.
