The UAMS Psychiatric Research Institute – Northwest offers both outpatient care and inpatient services, the only hospital-based facility that does so in Northwest Arkansas. Located in Springdale, PRI – Northwest’s inpatient unit is located on the fourth floor of the Northwest Medical Center’s north patient tower. The outpatient clinic is located in the Jones Medical Clinic, adjacent to the hospital.
The inpatient unit, which has 28 beds reserved for psychiatric patients, operates in partnership with Northwest Health System, Ozark Guidance Center, Springdale’s Care Foundation, Inc., Washington Regional Medical Center and Mercy Health System of Northwest Arkansas. The unit is staffed by PRI physicians, with Northwest providing nursing and support staff.
Michael Hollomon, M.D., is the inpatient unit’s medical director. An associate professor in the UAMS College of Medicine, Hollomon formerly served as medical director of psychiatric services at Washington Regional Medical Center in Fayetteville.
The outpatient clinic will serve the pre- and post-admission needs of some patients. Overseen by Judy Smith, LCSW, the clinic has four psychotherapy rooms designed to handle patients dealing with a variety of psychiatric disorders. Smith has experience working with children, adolescents, and adult populations with a range of mental health issues ranging from coping with life stressors to the treatment of the severe mental health issues.
