In partnership with the Arkansas Department of Human Services, the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences is pleased to announce a new program that will bring primary care physicians enhanced access to child and adolescent mental health expertise. The program is part of UAMS’ Psychiatric Research Institute and is known as the Psychiatric Telehealth, Liaison and Consults (Psych TLC).
A child and adolescent psychiatrist will be available via telephone to provide consultation to physicians such as pediatricians, family practice physicians, and general psychiatrists. Simply call 501-526-7425 or toll-free 1-866-273-3835 to access the UAMS Psych TLC Call Center. The program will be available beginning July 1, 2009, and will operate Monday through Friday, from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM, excluding state holidays.
The Psych TLC psychiatrist will offer telephone consultation within 15 minutes. The service is available to offer psychopharmacologic and/or diagnostic consultation for primary care physicians caring for children, adolescents and families experiencing emotional and behavioral disorders resulting in functional impairment.
The Psych TLC program will also provide primary care physicians with training and continuing medical education units in child and adolescent mental health services. Regional roundtables and interactive video teleconferences will be available to provide education on evidence based treatment guidelines. Over the next year, guidelines will be disseminated to physicians and mental health professionals in the following areas:
· Mood Disorders (e.g., depression, bipolar)
· Disruptive Behavioral Disorders (e.g., conduct disorders, oppositional disorders, attention deficit disorders)
· Reactive Attachment Disorder
· Psychosis
· Anxiety
