Our Child Study Center’s Outpatient Therapy Clinic at UAMS serves the entire state of Arkansas with over 1,000 new patients referred each year. The clinic treats newborn children through age 12, along with parents or guardians. Patients are typically referred directly for initial assessment, which consists of clinical interviews, mental status exams and reviews of existing evaluation or historical data. Based on this assessment, appropriate referrals are made for psychological evaluations and subsequent treatment plan recommendations, or treatment is initiated.
Our experts are focused on understanding the whole child and are able to evaluate and provide treatment recommendations and services that are comprehensive and satisfying to all. Consultation from a child psychiatrist, psychiatric social worker or other mental health specialist is readily available to meet the individual needs of your child. The most recent advances in child and adolescent outpatient therapies are provided by our team of highly skilled counselors. We provide comfort to children in need, as well as their families and loved ones. Outpatient diagnostic services include the following:
- Individual, group and family therapy
- Behavior management techniques
- Parent education and training
- Medication consultation and treatment
We also offer comprehensive specialized treatments including: Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT), Parent-Child Interaction Therapy (PCIT), and Child-Parent Psychotherapy (CPP).
Scheduling an Appointment
For all Medicaid patients we require a referral from your Primary Care Physician (PCP). You should contact your PCP and request that they fax a signed referral along with a demographic sheet for the child to 501-364-3966. Once we have the referral in hand we can schedule a new patient appointment.
The Child Study Center is located on the fifth floor of Arkansas Children’s Hospital South Campus. Click here for a map of Arkansas Children’s Hospital. Plenty of onsite parking is available directly across from the building (#11).
