The treatment of psychiatric disorders is just one part of the Psychiatric Research Institute. Research and education are integral to the overall approach of PRI. The institute’s focus on evidence-based care takes into consideration the education of future medical personnel while relying on the work of research scientists to provide innovative forms of treatment.

PRI’s three research divisions are the Center for Addiction Research, the Division of Health Services Research and the Brain Imaging Research Center. These administrative units are part of the UAMS College of Medicine.

The Center for Addiction Research is at the forefront when it comes to conducting innovative research designed to improve the prevention and treatment of addictive disorders as well as inform local and national policies regarding the antecedents and consequences of addiction. The Division of Health Services Research is one of largest and most involved centers of its kind in the country, coordinating numerous projects in and around Arkansas. The Brain Imaging Research Center, the newest of the three divisions, has distinguished itself in a short period of time as one of the leading resources for neuroscientific study.
