About Us
The Psychiatric Research Institute’s Center for Trauma Prevention, Recovery and Innovation (TPRI) is a multidisciplinary program designed to promote the growth and recovery for people who have experienced trauma through clinical care, education, and community integration. TPRI strives to promote prevention of trauma-related disorders, increase access to quality care for trauma-related disorders, and support innovative approaches designed to address the effects of traumatic stress.
TPRI strives to foster a trauma-informed care within the UAMS Health system. A trauma-informed approach to care integrates knowledge about psychological trauma into policies, procedures and practices in order to avoid re-traumatization of people served within the organization. This includes adopting patient-centered care principles designed to create a culture of safety, trustworthiness, cultural humility, collaboration, peer support, and empowerment within an organization in order to promote physical and psychological wellbeing.

TPRI collaborates with PRI’s outpatient and inpatient mental health and substance use programs to provide trauma-informed and trauma-focused treatments. This includes providing training and consultation in trauma-informed care as well as appropriate trauma-informed or trauma-focused clinical services across PRI’s mental health service line.
For adults, TPRI acts as a specialty clinic within the Walker Family Clinic that provides evidence-based trauma-focused treatments including:
- Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT)
- Prolonged Exposure (PE)
- Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR)
- Group therapy
- Basic Skills for Complex Posttraumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)
- CPR for PTSD: How to Calm and Prevent Re-Alarm for PTSD
- Dialectical Behavior Therapy
