The Essentials of Sex Therapy

wakefieldDuring this six-week course, Dr. Chelsea Wakefield will teach the “essentials” necessary to offer real help to clients struggling with sexual issues.

Offered online, 8 – 9 a.m. on Fridays – Nov. 12, 19, Dec. 3, 10, 17 and Jan. 7, 2022.  A special Q & A session and case consultation will be offered following each class from 9-9:30 a.m. (this portion is not recorded).

Teaching sessions will be recorded for reviewing or viewing at your convenience.

What the course will cover:

  • The necessary personal work required to be an effective sex therapist.
  • Opening the conversation – creating safe space for people to talk about their intimate concerns.
  • Assessment – what to ask and why it matters; Case Conceptualization – Listening beyond the words, thinking multi-dimensionally.
  • Introducing PLISSIT- Individualized treatment – working at the right level
  • Helping partners to talk to each other – the Initiator/Inquirer exercise.
  • Helpful interventions for specific sexual dysfunctions and partner dissatisfactions.

The cost of the course is $247.

Two Additional Case Conferencing Sessions for those who register before Oct. 31.

Qualifies for nine Social Work Contact Hours. (Most clinical licensing bodies accept SW Contact Hours with a post-test and syllabus indicating clinically relevant material, but check with your particular licensure board).  As an AASECT-approved provider, this course also qualifies for 9-11 hours of AASECT CE credit (dependent on attendance at the additional Case Conferencing Sessions).

Dr. Chelsea Wakefield is the founding director of the UAMS Couples Center, where she works with distressed couples, teaches clinicians, and offers community workshops on relationships and sexuality.

She is a popular conference speaker and the author of three books, including, “Negotiating the Inner Peace Treaty,” “In Search of Aphrodite: Women, Archetypes and Sex Therapy” and her most recent book, “The Labyrinth of Love – the Pathway to a Soulful Relationship.”

Arkansas needs more AASECT certified sex therapists.
