OptiMAT is a health and wellness app under evaluation by the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences. While OptiMAT was developed as a health and wellness app for patients who may be in treatment for alcohol use or other drug use disorders, participants without drug use disorders may also be evaluating app features. Using this app is not an endorsement of any alcohol or drug use disorders.
We value your privacy. This policy will describe the types of data we collect, why we collect that data, and how we will protect your privacy.
Definitions
To understand our privacy policy, it is important to define the following terms:
- “Collect” is defined as “transmitting data off your device in a way that allows us to access it for a period longer than what is necessary to service the transmitted request in real time.” OptiMAT will collect data from your phone for external storage and analysis, as described below. All data will be collected and stored by the OptiMAT smartphone app development team Enqbator.
- “Third-Party Partners” is defined as “analytics tools, advertising networks, third-party SDKs, or other external vendors whose code you’ve added to your app”. OptiMAT does not and will not have third-party partners.
- “Tracking” is defined as “linked with Third-Party Data for advertising or advertising measurement purposes, or shared with a data broker”. A data broker is a third-party which whom data is sold or traded. Since OptiMAT does not have Third-Party Partners or data brokers, OptiMAT will not track any of your data.
Data Types and Why We Collect them
Your email will be used only for communication purposes with research team.
Phone
OptiMAT will use your phone number for contacting emergency contacts, and for contacting us with technical support issues. Your phone number will be stored in the app but will not be collected or stored on our OptiMAT server.
User Account
OptiMAT will never collect your name. Instead, your OptiMAT user account will consist of a study ID code (i.e. “ABC.123”). This will allow us to link the data we collect from you with other data you have provided to us through our research studies. If you submit a technical support request, the research team will receive an email with your user account (study ID code) so that we may help you resolve the technical issue.
Birth month and day
OptiMAT will record your birth month and day to send you a personalized birthday message. We will not collect your birth year. This information is optional.
Other Personal information
OptiMAT will ask you to complete a daily report of your use of alcohol and/or other drugs, which may or may not include: study medications, nicotine use, alcohol use, marijuana use, opioid use. Completing this daily report is optional. Your daily report will be stored on our OptiMAT server. OptiMAT will also show you your weekly progress on these daily reports. Your weekly progress will be calculated from the daily reports and will not be collect or stored on the OptiMAT server or on your phone.
Purchase history
OptiMAT will ask you to complete a daily report of money spent to purchase alcohol and/or other drugs, which may or may not include: study medications, nicotine use, alcohol use, marijuana use, opioid use. Completing this daily report is optional. Your daily report will be stored on our OptiMAT server.
Approx location
We will ask you to provide locations (“hotspots”) where you experience strong craving for nicotine, alcohol, and/or other drugs. We will record these locations on the OptiMAT server, to a range of approximately one football field. (Note: these locations will not be stored in the OptiMAT app.) OptiMAT will monitor your approximate and precise physical location, to a range of approximately 10 yards. Once a minute, OptiMAT will use the smartphone GPS to detect and record your current location. If OptiMAT detects that you are within one of these personalized areas of high risk for relapse, OptiMAT may send you warning message about being in that area. OptiMAT may also send a message to rate your current level of craving and/or call an emergency contact, as described below.
Precise location
We will ask you to provide locations (“hotspots”) where you experience strong craving for nicotine, alcohol, and/or other drugs. We will record these locations on our server, to a range of approximately one football field. (Note: these locations will not be stored in the OptiMAT app.) OptiMAT will monitor your approximate and precise physical location, to a range of approximately 10 yards. Once a minute, OptiMAT will use the smartphone GPS to detect and record your current location. If OptiMAT detects that you are within one of these personalized areas of high risk for relapse, OptiMAT may send you warning message about being in that area. Health
OptiMAT will ask you to complete a daily report of mood and health, including sadness, anger, stress, craving severity, and withdrawal severity (if applicable). Completing this daily report is optional. Your daily report will be stored on our OptiMAT server.
Emergency Contact names, relationship, and phone numbers
OptiMAT will ask you to provide the names, relationships, and phone numbers of up to three Emergency contacts. These are people you may contact to help you if you feel that you are at risk for relapsing with use of alcohol, nicotine, marijuana, opioids, and/or other drugs. The OptiMAT app will allow you to enter the names and phone numbers of these individuals into the app. However, OptiMAT will not collect this information, meaning that your emergency contact names and phone numbers will not be stored on the OptiMAT server. This information will be stored only in the app and deleted if you delete the app.
If you enter an “hotspot”, or area where you experience high craving, OptiMAT may ask you if you want to contact an Emergency Contact. If so, OptiMAT will show you the three contacts and prompt you to call one of them. OptiMAT will also provide other emergency services, such as 9-1-1 or Arkansas 2-1-1. Calling your Emergency Contacts or emergency services is optional. If you choose to call an Emergency Contact, OptiMAT will record that decision on the OptiMAT server; however, OptiMAT will not collect any information about the name or phone number you called.
Data usage
We will collect your app data usage. This includes when you sign in or sign out of the app, when you complete a daily report, when you miss a daily report, and when you access OptiMAT features. We will collect this data to improve OptiMAT app features. We may also contact you if you miss one or more daily reports to see if you need technical assistance.
