Dear Friends of the UAMS Psychiatric Research Institute,
2019 was a year of re-establishing many important foundational aspects of the Psychiatric Research Institute. We needed many more faculty, our research needed reinvigorating, and a strong organizational structure for the department and institute needed to be restored. I am happy to report that a strong foundation has been re-established.
This year, Psychiatric Research Institute faculty and staff are busy building and extending this foundation. We are recruiting additional clinical and scientific faculty, broadening our strong educational programs and building out new programs such as the three described in this issue of Mind Matters. We are renewing and revitalizing our relationships with you, the friends of the Psychiatric Research Institute, via better communication, educational opportunities, and developing ways for you to actively help us with our mission. Thank you for your patience and support while we have been strengthening the Psychiatric Research Institute’s foundation. I hope you like what you see now and what you will see developing over the coming months.
Please remember that your philanthropic support is essential to help us meet the needs of patients and their families. For example, The Center for Trauma Prevention, Recovery, and Innovation could not have started as quickly, and cannot be maintained, without your generous support. Further, each of our programs and ones yet to be developed, are greatly accelerated by your support. If you would like to talk about ways you can participate philanthropically, please contact me.
As always, thank you for helping us help patients and their families who are burdened by mental illness and/or substance abuse.
Best wishes,
G. Richard Smith, M.D.
