The UAMS Psychiatric Research Institute’s Center for Addiction Services and Treatment provides medication-assisted treatment to treat opioid use disorders. Medication-assisted treatment combines the use of medications (e.g., Suboxone, buprenorphine, Vivitrol, methadone) and individual and group therapy to treat opioid detoxification, withdrawal, and cravings.
Suboxone/buprenorphine is used to treat addiction to opioid drugs, including heroin and narcotic painkillers. Suboxone is an opioid partial agonist and prevents withdrawal symptoms when someone stops taking opioids by producing similar effects to these drugs.
