Research Expertise
Greer Sullivan is a senior health services researcher with interests in public sector treatment for mental illnesses. Her research has aimed to understand how to better treat vulnerable populations with serious mental illness, such as persons who are homeless, in jails, or living in rural areas. For the past ten years, Dr. Sullivan directed a VA-funded regional research center in the south, the South Central Mental Illness Research Education and Clinical Center (MIRECC) that is situated in a network of care spanning eight states and including ten VA medical centers, 36 community-based outpatient clinics, and more than 1300 mental health providers. She has implemented large scale training programs for providers across the network and has written about implementation issues. She has also been involved in a series of studies examining innovative approaches to deliver mental health services in primary care settings. Most recently Dr. Sullivan has been involved in building community-based participatory research projects in the South that engage both academics and community leaders.
Research Interests: vulnerable populations, community-based participatory research
