From its three inpatient units to its comprehensive outpatient offerings, the Psychiatric Research Institute stands out as leader in the effort to help those living with mental illness.
PRI’s inpatient units, with a total of 40 beds, provide specialized care to women, children and adult patients. The women’s unit, 5-North, offers a secure, comforting environment for patients with mental health issues unique to women. The Child Diagnostic Unit is dedicated to family-centered treatment, available to patients between the ages of 2 and 12. The adult unit deals with patients with immediate and acute psychiatric needs.
PRI’s Walker Family Clinic relies on individual, group and family therapies to treat behavioral health disorders of adolescents, young adults and adults. The outpatient clinic’s specialty services include neuropsychology, trauma, women’s mental health, mood disorders and eating disorders. The clinic utilizes research-informed practices and specialized diagnostic tools to accurately assess each patient’s individual needs.
The Helen L. Porter and James T. Dyke Brain Imaging Research Center ranks among the top of the nation’s neuroscience research facilities, with state-of-the-art equipment and a highly trained staff, both dedicated to the study and treatment of brain-related conditions. PRI’s Division of Health Services Research is responsible for ground-breaking research related to the care of diverse groups throughout the rural southern region of the country.
The Dierks Research Laboratories, located on the fourth floor, include the Center for Addiction Research (CAR) and the Center for Addiction Services and Treatment (CAST), which provide convenient access for patients and guests. The CAR staff utilizes these labs for their innovative work studying the intricate brain functions of individuals addicted to various substances, including cocaine, tobacco and alcohol. CAST provides medical and therapeutic treatment in a safe and friendly environment. Its highly trained staff dedicated to helping its patients overcome their substance abuse disorder and return to a fulfilling and functional lifestyle.
